Obituary for Gary Allan Harris

Gary Allan Harris
Gary A Harris, 83, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully June 28, 2019, after a long illness, with his wife at his side.

Gary always wanted to control his own destiny, so at age 15 he purposely and proudly presented his parents with his straight “F” report card. That enabled him to enter Kemper Military Academy in Missouri, where he said he really learned to study. Finishing with honors, he went on to Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1958 with a BS in Engineering. After serving in the Air Force, he moved around the world with his many Engineering and Construction projects.

He loved reading, painting, riding his motorcycles, exploring, entertaining everyone, but mostly, he loved telling stories. His favorite quote was, “This too shall pass.”

He really was the “Most interesting man in the world!”

He was preceded in death by: parents, Beverly M. and Herschel J. Harris.

He is survived by his wife, EJ; son, Steven (Gisele); daughter, Vanessa; step-son, Tommy Person (Ann Marie); step-daughter, Gina Moore (Cliff); 5 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and numerous other friends and family members.

Visitation will be at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, TX from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Graveside service will be at 2:00pm at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
