Obituary for Robin Haltom (Redman)

Robin Redman Haltom
November 2, 1948 – June 27, 2019
Robin was born on November 2, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, to Capt. Frank O. Redman, USAF, and Wyatt W. (Peggy) Redman. She was their first and only child and the apple of their eye. The Air Force took the young family to Austin, Texas, where sister Vivian was born; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Paris, France; and Ramstein AFB, Germany, where Robin attended Kindergarten; and later to Arlington, Virginia, and then to Fairborn, Ohio, where her sister, Shawn, was born. While in Ohio, Robin studied piano and achieved a high degree of proficiency. Music was always an important part of her life, and she enjoyed mentoring Vivian as they sang in the choir together at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Robin spent her senior year of high school at Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio, Texas, and rejoined the family after graduation as they prepared to leave for London, England, for Lt. Col. Redman's diplomatic assignment as Assistant Air Attaché to the U.S. Embassy. Robin attended the American School of Switzerland in Leysin; Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where she pledged with Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) Fraternity; The University of Texas at Austin; and later graduated with a B.A. from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas. Robin married Sergeant Robert Haltom, USAF, and together they enjoyed tours at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX; Hickam AFB in Honolulu, Hawaii; Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois; and Einsiedlerhof AS in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Their daughter, Jennifer, was born in 1977 in Champaign, Illinois. Robin always enjoyed music, gardening, painting, and her family, taking special joy from motherhood. The family later returned to San Antonio where Robin enjoyed working for the Air Force, and received an award for Secretary of the Year, and later for Incarnate Word College. She was always well-spoken and participated in Toastmasters to hone her public speaking skills. She was also instrumental in the founding of a Toastmasters Club at Incarnate Word College to offer students the opportunity to develop and enhance essential public speaking skills. Robin's sweetness and sense of humor were always loved by those who knew her. She continued to play the piano, including practicing alongside the masters with her record player, for the majority of her life. She continually encouraged her daughter to be an active participant in life and in music with her own chosen instrument, the string bass. Robin is survived by daughter Jennifer Haltom and John McDonald, Jennifer's fiancé, of Kingwood, Texas; sister Vivian Redman Underwood of Anchorage, Alaska, and nieces Claire McKay and Victoria Stone and their families of Wasilla, Alaska; sister Shawn Redman Ponton and James Ponton of Fort Worth, Texas, and niece Alexandra Ponton and nephew Wyatt Ponton of Alpine, Texas. We celebrate Robin's graduation to larger life in God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ and presence of the Holy Spirit, and look forward to the time when we will be with one another again.
The service for Robin will be held on Friday, July 5 at 10:00 am at Kingwood Christian Church in Kingwood, Texas. The interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, Texas.
