Now I [we] have a brother
Sidney's my [our] brother-in-law but I've [we've] always thought of him as my [our] brother, the brother I [we] never had. Growing up as the oldest of five girls, I never knew what having a brother was like. Weldon too, since his only sibling is Nancy. I met Sidney and Nancy in late 1957 when I was introduced to the Wamble/Price families after I'd met Nancy's brother Weldon at a Halloween party that year. We dated on and off for four years before we married in December 1961.Sidney was such a special guy and by then he and Nancy had four children. He was a great husband, dad, and brother. He was an awesome person ,he never smoked, drank alcohol, cursed, or ran around. He and Nancy were always in church with the kids. he worked in the blueprint room at Reed and provided for his family ,as well as others who needed help. He did roofing, painting, building, putting up fences, cutting trees and firewood. He and Nancy built their home in Porter from the dirt up. He played a huge part in the food bank at church and also for Nancy's dulcimer programs. He went with Nancy and the kids to the church camp at Lakeview and to the dulcimer classes in Arkansas. As a family we would go to the dulcimer festivals in Glen Rose. Those were much fun and very relaxing times. We all [Mr. and Mrs. Wamble too ] did a lot of camping and had a great time doing it. It was cheap vacations for all of us as none of us had a lot of money. We all enjoyed those days to the fullest. We went to Colorado many times and to Glacier National Park in Montana once. Tim and Terri met us at Glacier for a few days or a week. It was so much fun. We went to state parks in Texas too ,camping out and cooking our meals over the open campfire. One unforgettable time camping in Colorado we were in Rocky Mountain National Park and were moving form the east side of the Divide to the west side [or vice versa] .We were going over Trail Ridge Road which is 14,000 and something feet elevation when a blizzard came up. We were in our 1959 Studebaker car pulling our tent trailer. Floyd and Brenda were with us and Tim and Terry were with Nancy and Sidney. They were in their old white Chevrolet station wagon pulling their little 13-14 foot travel trailer. As we struggled up Trail Ridge Road the park rangers were trying to get everyone off the road to close it because of the weather. Well, our car stalled out. Weldon started it and we went a few inches and it stalled again and again repeat repeat. That car would not pull our load up that mountain. So Weldon tells me to get out of the car, me being the heavy--weight that I am to lessen the load some. He'd pick me up on the down side if he could make it that far. So I got out and started walking up the mountain. The true blizzard that it was with its high winds, snow, and ice almost blew me off the road. I'd never before nor since been in a blizzard and it was tough going. And it was cold, oh, so cold. The ice felt like little needles being slammed into my face.It hurt like crazy. Well, Sidney and Nancy were behind us and they saw me walking in that weather. Sidney stopped on the uphill side and picked me up. I was soooooo grateful to them. What a blessing that was ! I was so very thankful to be out of that weather. And this was mid-June. How different from Texas June.Thanksgivings were wonderful with our campouts in state parks too and cooking our meals over the open campfires Their Christmas breakfasts with all the family together on the Sunday before Christmas Day is unforgettable too. All that hard work and expense Sidney and Nancy put out was awesome.! What an outpouring of love and sacrifice. !! I could go on and on with memories of our family get-togethers ,the hunting camp at Rye, the times at the Cabin on Caney Creek etc. but I'll stop here. Sidney will be truly missed by many people, family and friends. Nancy and Children Grand-children and Great-grand-children ,our deepest sympathy to all of you. May God bless you all and give you the strength and comfort only He can give. Thank you for sharing Sidney so I [we] could have a brother. We love you, Sidney. We love all of you very much.
