Obituary for David Edward Schaumburg

David Edward Schaumburg
David Edward Schaumburg, 70, of Humble went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. He was born on Friday, November 12,1948 to Harry and Elizabeth Schaumburg. David is preceded in death by his parents. David is survived by his wife, Diana Schaumburg; daughter, Rachel Newberry and her husband, Jeff; granddaughter, JoJo Newberry; brother, Harry Schaumburg, and his wife, Rosemary; and many other family members and friends.
David grew up in New Jersey, where his parents served as pastors of several churches. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Central Bible College. Soon after graduation, David met his wife Diana, while visiting a friend in California. They later married and spent their early married life as pastors of a small church in California. It was while pastoring this church that their daughter, Rachel, was born.
While Rachel was a toddler, the family moved to Springfield, Missouri, where David earned his master’s degree in cultural anthropology from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. The family then returned to California, settling in Fresno, home of Fresno State University. Here David helped The Assemblies of God
church denomination launch a new program to share God’s love, build friendships and provide practical assistance to international students who were navigating the challenges of living in a new country. During this time, he and Diana opened their home to many students from all over the world. Later in life, David would use these skills to serve as a Counselor and then the Associate Director, in the International Students and Scholars Office at the University of Houston.  It was during this time that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, but he remained actively employed for several years after receiving the diagnosis. Gradually, the disease rendered him unable to work full time, but David remained active in his church for several years after retiring from UH.
David was an active reader, a biblical scholar, and a fan of both the Astros and the University of Houston Cougars. He was known for his sense of humor. He loved watching his granddaughter play and would always light up when he saw her. He was loved and will be missed dearly by his family, who, while missing him, are happy he is now free from Parkinson’s and living with his Heavenly Father.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at Rosewood Memorial Park, Humble, Texas. In lieu of flowers, David's family requests donations be made to Houston Hospice at houstonhospice.org.
A graveside service is planned for Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 2602 S. Houston Ave., Humble TX 77396. Maps to grave site will be provided at the Cemetary Office.
