Obituary for George Travis Reeves Jr.

George Travis Reeves Jr., age 73, passed away at home in New Caney, TX surrounded by family after a lengthy illness on February 9, 2019. George was born on July 16, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas to George Travis Reeves Sr. and Orpah Jack (Jackie) Barclay Barnes.
George was raised in Beaumont and attended school there graduating from Beaumont High School in 1964. On August 1, 1969 he married Kathie Yvonne Wilson. Together they raised two children, Richard and Sherri. Life took them from Beaumont to Houston in 1973 where George worked in the oilfield and manufacturing industries before retiring in 2010 from Mustang Caterpillar equipment.
George loved the outdoors, spending many happy hours fishing and hunting with his wonderful friends at the True Hart Hunting Club. He also had a love of history which led him to enjoy Cowboy Shooting events and many years participating in Buckskinning Rendevous. His retirement years were enjoyed pursuing a lifelong interest in classic and antique cars. He could often be found fishing the neighborhood lake or in his shop tinkering with his “toys”.
George is survived by his loving family; Kathie, wife of 49 years; Richard Reeves, son, of Dayton TX; Sherri Owens, daughter, of New Caney TX; grandsons; Cody Thornton, Rayburn Reeves, Clayton Owens; step-father, John Barnes; sisters, Virginia Pierce and Marilyn Barnes; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Lynn Juvenois; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Stephanie Wilson; many much-loved nieces,nephews and cousins. George was preceded in death by his parents; George and LaRue Reeves; father and step-mother; mother, Jackie Barnes.
There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Rosewood Memorial Park North, 22271 U.S. 59 North, Porter, Texas 77365, 281-441-2171. Family and friends are invited to the Reeves home for a gathering to share food and fond memories.
