Obituary for Herman Starling

Herman Starling
Herman Starling passed away Saturday February 2nd, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Pasadena, Texas. He was born January 1, 1933 to Lucy Mae and Arthur Starling in
Kennard, Texas. He was the youngest of the five Starling boys and had one younger sister. His siblings were Thomas, William, J.W., Raymond, Vernon, and Lois. Herman was preceded in death by his parents William Arthur and Lucy Mae Starling and his four brothers, Thomas, William, J.W., Raymond and Vernon Starling. Herman was also preceded by the death of his son Clinton Starling in 2010.

Herman’s lifelong friend was Billy Dean Trammel. The stories of their adventures always brought a smile and a michievious giggle out of him. He always “lit up” at the mention of his name and especially when he got to see him to visit, pick vegetables, or hunt. Thanks for always being just a phone call away. He treasured your friendship.

Herman was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954 as a Supply Handler. He trained at Camp Chafee, Arkansas. Herman proudly wore the uniform for those years while touring Germany and other locales. After getting out of the service, Herman began working at Shell Refinery in Deer Park until the strike. Herman proudly worked for Washington National Insurance Company until he retired in April of 1988. Some of the friendships he made there, lasted a lifetime and provided a wonderful life for Nelda, Patrice, and Clinton. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas. Herman loved to travel, garden, hunt, fish, play the lottery, and visit casinos.

Herman is survived by his Wife of 61 years Nelda Faye Williams-Starling, Daughter Patrice Starling-Hinson and her husband Gary Hinson, Grandson Colton Hinson, Sister Lois Braswell and Husband Shelby of Kennard, Texas, Sister in-law Flodessa Starling of Ratliff, Melba Beard and husband Don of Crockett, Doris Terry of Apple Springs, Debby and George T. (Butch) Duren of Lufkin, Texas. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
