Obituary for
Ronald Dave Farr
Ron was born in Salinas California September 18,1947. He’d lived in the Houston area since a small child.
He worked for his dad’s company B&W Armature works, then worked for Drilco until they had a layoff in the early 1980’s. During that time he also worked for Gilbert Wood as an electrician helper and with Dennis Maxey at Goolsby Engineering. He later worked for Toshiba as a purchasing agent until laid off again in 2001.
He played sports from an early age. Starting with football in elementary school until he graduated. Ron also played baseball as a teenager. After high school and until he was not able to participate like he would have loved to, he enjoyed playing in baseball and bowling leagues for Drilco. He also learned to play golf which he really enjoyed. Ron always said it was great stress reliever.
Later on, Bro. Stone got him started fishing again, which he hadn’t done since his dad passed away. They had may adventures fishing together. A snake in the boat, the boat tipping over, losing his phone 3 different times and so on.
Ron was also a die-hard Astros Baseball fan. He never gave up on them. When they won the world series, in 2017 he was overwhelmed. But, at the same time, he cried because Doug wasn’t there to celebrate with him.
The family got to take several vacations over the past few years. Branson was really exciting as he and Nick got to go to the original Bass Pro Shop. He had hoped the family could go back there. And last year, visited Peggy’s nephew and family in Virginia. They made sure he was able to get about by borrowing a wheel chair from their church and Ron was able to enjoy the sights in and around Washington D.C.
Ron was a member Lakeway Baptist Church. Through the years, he taught Sunday School, worked in AWANA, sang in the choir and sang specials. He truly felt God used him best as the treasurer and Church Administrator.
But his greatest joy was his family, especially, his grandchildren. After he was laid off from Toshiba, he became their babysitter until they all started school. Nick loved to eat beanie weenies and corndogs, he only dropped Natalie on her head two (2) times (a joke in our family) and Alysia was always the big sister and “momma” to the other two. If they had to go anywhere they went in Ron’s old red truck which they named “red dog” and usually the AC didn’t work.
His dad, Bill Farr and his 2 sons, Patrick and Doug Farr precede him in death.
Ron is survived by his wife Peggy (50 years, 10 months and 17 days, his daughter Lisa Cairns, grandchildren Alysia, Natalie and Nick. Also his mother, Nellie Hargis; his sisters Vicki Pearce and Husband Hank and Tina Stamper. And, a host of family and friends.
