Obituary for
LaDon Farmer
It is with great sadness that the family of LaDon Farmer announces his passing on Friday, January 25th, at the age of 85. He was born in Hereford, TX on March 21, 1933, graduated high school and joined the Army from 1953 to 1955 to serve this country that he loved dearly.
LaDon was a very giving man both in his profession in the oilfield and in his personal life. He offered jobs to many young people and gave them opportunities to learn and kick start their careers. When LaDon retired from the oilfield, he decided to take on a new adventure of owning and operating Jackson Hill Park and Marina on Sam Rayburn Lake. He stayed busy hosting bass tournaments, cooking in the café, and consulting on what the best tackle the fish were biting on. After a few years, he retired from the Marina life. He loved the lake and the outdoors so much that he spent a lot of time at the lake house gardening, fishing, and feeding the birds. But what gave him the biggest pleasure was having big cookouts and fish fries for all his friends, family, and neighbors. He also loved to give away his fruits of labor from his big beautiful garden to everyone, including people at business establishments within the community.
LaDon will be lovingly remembered by his wife LaVonna of 60 years, his daughter, Shannan (Jeff), son, Jeff, grandson, Jacob, and pet, Barney. He will also be forever remembered by his brothers, John and Gary, extended family, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Bob and Paul.
Viewing for the public will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, January 31st at Rosewood Funeral Home, 22271 U.S. Hwy 59N, Porter, Texas 77365. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 1 at Rosewood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park North in Porter, Texas. Because of LaDon’s love for animals, memorial donations can be made to Friends for Life www.friends4life.org.
