Obituary for
Richard Lynn Parks
Richard Lynn Parks was born on October 25, 1944 in Picher, Oklahoma to Ira and Ella Parks. He was the youngest of eight children. Following his mother’s death at a young age, he and his two sisters were raised by his brother Ira Jr. and wife Patricia. He is survived by his wife, Julie; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Stephanie Parks, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Steve Ellis, and son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Cassie Parks; grandchildren Madeline, Alex, Preston, Matthew, Genevieve, Ira, and Elliot; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ralph Fisher, and brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carol Parks.
Richard graduated from Central High School in San Angelo, served in the National Guard where he was trained as a paratrooper, and spent most of his career working at Hutchison-Hayes, an oil and gas equipment and services business. Throughout his life, Richard served his community as a Boy and Girl Scout leader, founding officer of North Channel Soccer Club, and coach and referee for youth soccer. He served on a variety of committees at his church, Holy Trinity. After his retirement, he was an active member and President of the Goodtimers at AUMC. He enjoyed golfing and attending sporting events, especially high school football and soccer, as well as the many and varied activities of his grandchildren.
He was generous in many ways, including most recently his love of delivering bread to those in need. Richard was outgoing, kind-hearted, and never met a stranger. His sense of humor, while sometimes irreverent, is how he will be remembered by many.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the AUMC Goodtimers (aumc.org) or UT Health Science Center’s MMS Cardio & Vascular Surgery Research & Education (https://med.uth.edu/cvs/locations/)
