Obituary for Evelyn Doris Wood (Reid)

.Evelyn Doris (Reid) Wood
Born May 24, 1925 in Bastrop, Texas

Doris, as her friends called her, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Jan. 9, 2019, peacefully at her home in New Braunfels, TX. She is proceeded in death by her Father, Homer Reid; her Mother Bertha (Reid) Schultz; her beloved husband Elmer Branch Wood; daughter Linda Kirkland; grandson Richard Barber; brother Lawrence Reid any many loved family members.

Doris, age 93, had a very full and fruitful life. She married Elmer in 1942 while he was still in the Army. They were together for 48 years before his passing in 1990. Doris is survived by 3 of their children: Robert (wife Ginna); Joyce (husband Kenneth); Laurie (husband Morris); 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grand daughter. Each loved her dearly and called her Granny or Big Granny. Either way, she was always ready with lots of hugs and cold lemon drops from the fridge.

Also survived by sister Wilma; brother Otto (wife Becky); sister Pat; brother Larry (wife Sharon); and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was a long time member of Friendship Methodist Church in Porter. She was active in UMW and worked with the sewing group on many Mission projects. After moving to Huffman, she joined Lake Houston United Methodist Church and made many new friends and worked with the ladies of UMW there as well. She enjoyed serving the Lord.

Some of Doris's favorite things to do: genealogy, sewing, crochet, knit, cook and bake for others, she was an avid reader, and she loved QVC.

Our mother's loving kindness was only out shined by her wonderful smile that just lit up a room. She loved her family, her church, and helping others. This world will miss her, but Heaven shines just a litter brighter tonight.
