Obituary for Peter "Pete" Adamchak Sr.

Peter "Pete" Adamchak Sr.
Pete “Pep” Adamchak, age 89, passed away on November 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00, Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Rosewood Funeral Home, Porter, Texas. Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, November 19, 2018 at Friendship United Methodist Church, Porter, Texas. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park, Porter, Texas. Pete was born in Conemaugh, Pennsylvania to Nicholas and Salomia Adamchak on June 25, 1929, one of twelve children. He attended
Alderson Broaddus University where he played basketball, baseball, and earned his BS degree in education. He was listed as one of the top fifty athletes in his collegiate conference, and was inducted into the West Virginia Collegiate Hall of Fame. He attended several baseball training camps, often having to hitchhike. It was at one of these training camps that the Washington Senators took an enthusiastic interest in his
pitching abilities. Unfortunately, his time pitching double headers in college took a toll on his pitching arm. Pete then went on to become a coach and teacher. He coached and taught for several years in Ohio
before moving to Texas. Pete, along with his three children moved to New Caney, Texas in 1972.
As a single father of three he devoted his life to being the best father a child could hope for. Summers were spent in Pennsylvania with family. His love of sports never waned. He continued to support the New Caney Eagles football, basketball, and baseball programs. He became an avid golfer, even though as he put it “I don’t have a swing!” He continued to play golf up until one month of his passing. Throughout his coaching and teaching career he touched the lives of hundreds of young men and young women, many of whom still
maintained contact with him. Pete is predeceased by his father and mother, Nicholas and Salomia Adamchak. His brothers Andrew, John, Walter, and Boris. His sisters Mary and Olga. Pete is survived by his three children, Pete Adamchak, Michelle Adamchak Curry (spouse, Stan), and Stephen Adamchak. His brother William Adamchak, twin sister Pearl Slavick, and sister Helen Polding (spouse, Fred). Pete is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
