Obituary for Ronald Lee Austin

Ronald Lee  Austin
Ronald Lee Austin was born July 29, 1946 in Dallas, Texas and passed away September 7, 2018 in Houston, Texas after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Lynn Fuller Austin; by his son, Todd Austin and wife Melanie; by his daughter, Shannon Reynolds and husband Jeremy; by his grandchildren, Ashlie Neubauer and husband Dustin, Abigail Austin, Trenton Austin, Kristian Reynolds, Makayla Reynolds, and Josiah Reynolds; by his brother-in-law, Doyle Iselt; by his nephew, Duane Iselt and wife Carrie, and also by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Herman Austin; by his mother, Faye Latson Austin; by his sister, Sheila Iselt; and by his niece, Erin Iselt.

Ron graduated from Galena Park High School in 1964 and Lamar University in 1969. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He was named honorary member of the Da Nang Ranger Club, 1971, in Da Nang, Vietnam. He also attended the U.S. Army Engineering Officer Candidate School in Ft. Belvoir, VA. In 2010 Ron was recognized as a Pioneer and Founding Member of the Lamar University Spirit Organization “The Cards.”

Ron worked in the oil, gas, and marine transportation business for over 40 years. He retired in 2014, and then served on the Board of Directors of Knight Transport, LTD until 2016 when he resigned due to health reasons. He loved and enjoyed cooking, playing golf and doing yard work.

Donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

His life verse was Isaiah 6:8

I heard the voice of the Lord, saying “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
