Obituary for Glenn Franklin Brown

Glenn Franklin Brown
Glenn Franklin Brown passed away peacefully at 3:59 p.m., on Saturday, June 16, 2018, in Kingwood, Texas. He was an honorable gentleman of 86 years. Glenn was born on September 24, 1931, in Harrisonburg, Louisiana to his predeceased parents, Leonard John Brown and Eva Mae Horton. He is predeceased by his brother, Willard Brown, of Decatur, Alabama, and is survived by his loving sister, Jo L. Brown DeCarlo (predeceased Victor A. DeCarlo), of Honolulu, Hawaii. As a young boy growing up in the midst of the Great Depression, he was known in life for his deep core values, his resourcefulness, his perserverance, his contentment and his selflessness. We knew our father as a man of music - Nat King Cole, Harry Belafonte, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Karen Carpenter and Anne Murray to mention a handful of his favorites.

In 1949, Glenn graduated from Oak Ridge High School, Tennessee, where his classmates fondly knew him as "Tadpole". He was known by all as 'one of the greatest wits', a characteristic quality that never abandoned him in life. He was fiercely loyal and devoted to his family and to his friends - never missing a moment to stay in touch or to share his sense of humor with all who loved him, or folks whom he met. The world will miss our father's wit, charm, and good nature.

Prior to graduation, in 1948, Glenn enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States Army Division serving in Company B, 194th Engineer. As Master Sergeant, he fought honorably in the Korean War, years 1949-1951, where he was decorated with the Korean Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1960.

In 1952, while stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky, Glenn met, and was married to Bobbie Jean Holland of Decatur, Alabama. His life was continuously blessed with the lives of his five children who survive him; Susan Melinda Gilbert (Keith), Glenn Franklin Brown, Jr. (Liz), Teresa Anne Brown, Kathy Lynn Brown Chessher (Wesley) and David Scott Brown (Darlene); and his grandchildren, Amy Melinda Niezgoda (Matthew), and Abby Elizabeth Cottle (Jacob), Lauren Elizabeth Brown, Glenn Cahill Brown, and Caroline Grace Chessher; along with his great grandchildren Madison Noelle Niezgoda, Caleb Thomas Vaughan Niezgoda, Grayson James Cottle and Everly Elizabeth Cottle. Glenn was predeceased by Evelyn Florence Horton Bradley (Aunt), Estes Floyd Horton (Uncle), Lonnie Franklin Horton (Uncle), Kenneth Bradley (Cousin), Wallace Bradley (Cousin), and is survived by his cousin, Kelly Horton Hackney and her children, Heath Hackney (Cousin), Nicholas Hackney (Cousin) and Timothy Hackney (Cousin).

After his years of service to the military, Glenn began working with Union Carbide & Chemical Company in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He later joined American Machine & Foundry Company, and was involved with the Titan Missile Program living throughout several states during his service. He was the Chief Inspector for Brown & Root and NASA, for the development of the Astronaut Program in the 1960's. He retired working within the cryogenics industry as the Regional Service Representative for Air Products & Chemicals, Inc.

Glenn was a member of Union Lodge #38 in Kingston, Tennessee from 1956 to 2018. He was a Blue Lodge Master Mason, a Shriner, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Glenn was initiated as an entered Apprentice Mason on April 6, 1956, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on May 18, 1956, and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on July 21, 1956. Glenn became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Austin Valley of the Scottish Rite on February 26, 1994. He joined the Austin Ben Hurr Shrine in March of 1995 where he was a member of the transportation unit which transported needy children to the Burn Center in Galveston, and to the Scottish Rite Cripple Children Center in Dallas. He served endlessly through his affiliation with Shriners Hospitals for Children-Galveston Burn Center which provides highly specialized acute, reconstructive and rehabilitative care for children.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018, at Rosewood Funeral Home-Atascocita, 17404 W. Lake Houston Parkway, Humble, Texas 77346, (281) 441-2171. Guests may begin to arrive at 11:00 a.m., to 12:00 p.m., with Masonic Rites to begin closely after 12:00 Noon. Military honors and Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
