Obituary for Marilyn Margit Erikson (Frandsen)

Marilyn Margit Erikson (Frandsen)
It is with deepest regret that we announce the passing of Margit Eriksen on March 24, 2018. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly during a stay at the hospital. Instead of a traditional obituary, her grandson chose to write her a letter thanking her for the legacy she left behind.

To my dearest Grandmother/Farmor,

Words cannot express how much I miss you. You have been my biggest supporter, my champion, and my protector and for that I will always be thankful. There is a void in my heart and my life that will never be replaced with your passing. You lived your life in a manner above and beyond most people could only dream to emulate. You emerged from a bad marriage and successfully raised three boys on your own. And you made sure to protect me from my parents horrible divorce. You were the glue that held this family together - through thick and thin. I thank you for guiding our family through these rough times in our lives. It only made us stronger and more resolute to make sure we followed in your footsteps. I know you are sitting in heaven watching over all of us, making sure we do the things you have taught us and instilled in us.

Your humble beginnings and the way you lived your life taught me, my father, and uncles humility, graciousness, and to love one another unconditionally. You always put your family first and ensured we all had the means to survive, even if that meant sacrificing and forgoing the things you needed. You came to America looking for hope and to live the “American Dream” after World War II. It is my hope you were able to achieve everything you set out to do during your life. I will always remember the stories you shared with me about your trip to America and living with your Aunt Dora and Lee in Chicago. I will also cherish the stories you shared with me about Christmas, birthdays, life on the family farm, and visits back home after you came to America. You are from a generation of heroes and the world needs to emulate your generation. And I can’t thank you enough for ensuring we knew about our family heritage and taking me to Denmark to meet our family. Because of you, I was fortunate enough to meet your brothers, sisters, mother, and extended family on multiple occasions.

Despite your passing, I am grateful you are now reunited with your siblings and parents and can laugh and enjoy each other’s company in the presence of God. You have one amazing brother left and even though he is halfway across the world, I am sure he remembers the same tenacity, love, and generosity about you that we all got to see and experience during your time with us.

I will forever miss our daily conversations, visits, hugs, and telling you how much I love you. I owe you so much more than what you ever gave me. I know I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, but I hope I made you proud and will be able to emulate the examples and life lessons you left us.

Thank you for being the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother we could possibly have.

I love you and will see you soon!

Love, Your Grandson

A Celebration of Life luncheon is currently being planned and will be announced in the near future. There will be no funeral service, as it was Ms. Eriksen’s wishes to scatter her ashes at a predetermined location. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the following charity in her honor.

From The Vine Ministries
PO BOX 2735
Cypress, Texas 77410

If sending a check, put “In Honor of Margit Eriksen” on the memo line.
