Obituary for
Ceceile Donnette Slaughter (Griswold)
Ceceile Donnette Slaughter, from Conroe, Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday morning September 16, 2018 at the age of 65 years old. Ceceile was born on September 21, 1952 in Houston, Texas to parents Elvin and Leba Griswold. Ceceile is survived by her husband of 38 years Jesse Lynn Slaughter Sr., sons John Travis Slaughter and Jesse Lynn Slaughter Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren Cameron & Nikki Slaughter and Wyatt & Breckyn Slaughter. Ceceile’s surviving siblings are Jackie Matthews, Laury Finn, and Phyllis Rainey.
Ceceile graduated from Humble High School in 1970 and from there she furthered her education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1974. After college, Ceceile worked in the field of Accounting for many years.
Although Ceceile’s educational background was in the area of Business Administration, her passion was United States History. Her late father, Elvin Jackson Griswold, instilled a strong foundation of Civil War history in Ceceile at an early age. In Ceceile’s adult life, her knowledge of the subject could have given her the ability to lecture on the topic at any educational level if she had chosen to.
Ceceile was also a master seamstress where her work was exceptional in the areas of sewing, crochet and cross stitching.
Ceceile loved working alongside her husband with their sons’ FFA livestock projects. Her toil in this area was the driving force behind many Grand Champion projects over the years. If Ceceile wasn’t cheering her sons on at a sporting event, or working in the livestock barn, you could for sure find her enjoying her favorite pastime — reading. Ceceile’s education did not stop at the collegiate level; she was what one would consider a “lifelong learner” and her home library was a testament to that.
In January of 2001, Ceceile suffered a massive “AVM” in the brain which in return left her disabled. For the last 17 years she resided at a nursing home in the Woodlands, Texas. On a daily basis, that facility was blessed with her grace, smile, kind words and the singing voice of an angel. Her recent health struggles took her to Memorial Hermann Hospital fighting for her life over the course of a week. She had the best medical team possible and her family was by her side when she left this world. Ceceile will be missed by many but one thing will remain — her heart, desire and love of family lives on through the lives she has touched and that legacy will live on for generations to come.
