Obituary for Robert Joseph Snoek

Robert Joseph Snoek
Bob Snoek, 84, died Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at his home in Porter Texas following a two
and a half year fight with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Peggy (Picou) Snoek; his son Bryan Snoek and his two daughters
Karen Mercantel and Janet Winter along with their spouses Judy Snoek, Steve Mercantel and
Dale Winter.
In addition he leaves behind 7 Grandsons and 11 Great Grandchildren; as well many extended
family and friends.
Born in Port Arthur Texas he was the son of Florabell Snoek and William K. Snoek.
He was the youngest of 9 kids. Four Brothers and four sisters.
As a young boy he worked several jobs to help out at home due to the fact his father passed
away when he was only 18 months old. Bob went to work for Gulf Oil in Port Arthur and at 26
he would meet the ‘Love’ of his life.
When he was in late twenties, he moved his family of 5 to Baytown Texas where he helped
expand the Gulf Cedar Bayou Plant was being built. In the early 70’s he and his wife Peggy
bought a plant nursery where he worked both at the chemical plant and nursery everyday for
several years.
In the late 70’s Bob left Gulf for yet another opportunity. He bought a machine shop in
Houston called Texas Carbide. He later acquired another company called Sandelius Instruments
and combined them both in one location. For the next 20 years Bob and Peggy successfully
built and ran the business together. He not only took pride in his business, but in every
relationship and every endeavor.
In 1999 Bob and Peggy were ready to enjoy their retirement years at Lake Livingston Texas.
This decision led them to sell the business to their children and their spouses. This business is
still being run by his son and two son-in-laws to this day.
Bob loved the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and loved to work in his yard and garden. He
also enjoyed his hobbies such as collections of many things, his favorite being indian artifacts.
Through his 84 years of life Bob was an example of a man who loved people and loved to
entertain. He would steal hearts with kindness, wisdom, wonderful stories and a lot of love.
He is a man that is ‘Truly Admired’ and will be missed by all who knew him.
