Obituary for
Vivian Joyce Clifton (Blaschke)
Vivian Joyce Clifton passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus on August 8, 2018 at the age of almost 92 years.
A mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she was the loving matriarch of her family who adored her.
Vivian was born August 21, 1926, in Schulenburg, Texas to Charles and Emily Blaschke, the fourth of ten children. She is survived by her son, Jed Clifton; daughter, Diane Baker and son-in-law, Glen Baker; stepson, Larry Doyle Clifton; grandchildren, Danielle McBee, Brittany Baker, Larry Clifton Jr., Kenny Clifton, Stacie Carter, Reece Irby, Candace Clifton, Jonathan Clifton, Justin Rankin, and Katie Johnson; sister, Maydelle Fraser; brothers, Charles and Howard “Gene” Blaschke; fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vivian married her true love, Doyle Clifton, on April 23, 1954. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage. Together they owned and operated Doyle’s Drive Inn convenience stores for 31 years. Vivian worked the cash register for a while before deciding her strengths were best served by acting as bookkeeper. She always had a knack for numbers. She served as Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Houston Retail Grocers Association for many years. She was also a member of SPJST Lodge #88.
Vivian loved being a wife and mother foremost. She was an excellent homemaker. Her family loved her spaghetti and meatballs, homemade stew and chicken noodle soup. Vivian loved to travel, go on cruises, dance and play the slots. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bingo, watching football and loving on her grandchildren. She was the best “Mamaw” ever.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers at The Veranda House in Katy, the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hermann Katy, and the wonderful and caring nurses and aides of AMED Hospice Care.
