Obituary for Bob "Meaux" Morris

Bob "Meaux" Morris
Bob Morris passed away on July 27, 2018 in Houston, Texas due to complications from heart surgery. He was 83.

Bob was born in 1934 in Columbus, Mississippi, to JP and Reba Brister Morris. His parents owned and operated small bars and casinos along the Mississippi coast and Bob began working with them in these establishments at an early age. He was a gifted athlete and played football and basketball for Gulfport High School. He played football for Ole Miss and the University of Florida. He enlisted in the US Army in November 1954 and was in a special division of the Military Police. The members were all tall and played basketball for the Army. They were based in Stuttgart, Germany and traveled throughout Europe.

Bob completed his military obligation in 1957 and returned to Mississippi Southern College to complete his education. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology in August, 1960 and moved to Lafayette, Louisiana to start a job in the oil and gas industry. He met Bonnie Morris Johnson through mutual friends and they quickly became a couple. Bob and Bonnie were married in Houston, Texas on August 11, 1962.

Bob worked in the ‘oil patch’ for many years, including on drilling rigs in his younger years and later in international oil tool sales for Reed and other top companies. He also worked with The Detail Company, a purveyor of worldwide hunting and fishing adventures. The Detail Company is owned by Jeri Booth, his long-time friend and later his companion through the end of his life. Bob was a talented photographer and captured many beautiful images, often of nature or scenic landscapes. Fishing was his first love, but he also enjoyed hunting and gardening. Mostly, he will be remembered as a fantastic cook, great bartender, and loyal friend.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Bonnie. He is survived by his daughter, Tana Herrington, son-in-law Brent and their two children Austin and Devon Herrington. He is also survived by daughter Tara Cook, her husband Michael Richard Cook, and their children Jennifer Cook Breitkreuz, Nicole Cook and Michael Richard Cook, III. He leaves behind many friends.

Bob will be remembered at a visitation at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble on Friday evening, August 3, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Rosewood on Saturday, August 4th at 2:00 p.m., followed by his burial next to Bonnie. A celebration of his life will take place following the burial at Lloyd’s Bar in Humble. Please join his friends and family to honor him and his love for life.
