DAVID DONNER SHAW
Born May 29, 1935, to Helen A. Shaw (Donner) and Paul E. Shaw of Columbus, Ohio, Dave’s work experiences through 1955 were diverse. Among them were The Columbus Dispatch, Big Bear Grocery Stores, F & R Lazarus Department Stores, Blue Cross of Central Ohio, North American Aviation and swimming pool lifeguard activities during the summers.
A graduate of Columbus South High School, his 41-year career with Columbia Gas System began in 1956 as a Columbus Pay Station Operator, advancing through local and to central Ohio District Office Manager.
Affiliations included Southgate Masonic Lodge #692 (later named Southgate-Potter Lodge #0782), Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Sergeant (Ohio National Guard), Toledo Management Association, Downtown Toledo Kiwanis Club, Employers’ Association of Toledo/Administrative Management Committee, Toledo Lions’ Club, Downtown Toledo High Twelve Club, Board of Directors and various officerships of Big Brother/Big Sisters of Northwestern Ohio, Business and Office Education Advisory Committee for Toledo Public Schools, Adams Conservation Club and various National Rifle Association activities.
Upon retiring as Manager of Columbia’s Northern Ohio Regional Headquarters Administration in 1996, Dave’s activities and interests continued in the energy investment sector as well as in various political agendas. He and Sara resided in the Toledo area until 2000, when they moved to Pinehurst of Atascocita (Humble, Texas) to chase their grandsons!
David is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sara (Price); daughter Dana and son-in-law David Ippoliti; grandsons Nicholas and Vincent; nieces Cathy Barrick and Debbie Kirk; great-nephews, Andy Barrick and Joe Kirk; and great-niece Kelly Kirk.
David’s wishes were to have no services. He asked that his family and friends enjoy dinner at a “first-class restaurant” instead. Any tributes may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project.
There may be some who are just as good a man as David D. Shaw was; but, surely, there are none better.
