C.J. Roberts (Powers)
C.J. (Clara Jewell) Roberts passed away on December 30th, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Kingwood, Texas. C.J. was born in Hillsboro, Texas on October 18th, 1929 to Vestia A. Powers and Leslie O. Powers. She was the second youngest and last surviving of 8 siblings: Her twin brother David, Dorothy, Fleeta, Manila, Leslie, Jake and Benita. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, Texas. She married the love of her life, Carl N. Roberts in Whitney, Texas on April 14th 1950. Their adventure together took them to Dallas, Colorado, Midland and finally to Houston, Texas. C.J. was known for a spectacular vocabulary, flashing wit, a dry sense of humor and a ready laugh. Her love of and skill at word puzzles was legendary and she was a voracious reader. She was an avid bridge player and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The one word that captures her personality best is dedication. She was a truly amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. She played a huge roll in the lives of many of her nieces and nephews and other extended family members as well. She was always there for anyone who needed her.
C.J. is survived by her children, Sandra Spradlin, Cary and Wendy Roberts and her grandsons Scott Nance, Jeffrey Nance, Connor Roberts, Kaden Roberts and Cullen Roberts. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law Kay and Louis Makowski and more nieces and nephews than can be easily counted.
A viewing will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, Texas on Friday January 5th from 5pm until 8pm. There will be a memorial service At Kingwood Christian Church in Kingwood on Saturday January 6th at 11am with lunch to follow. She will be interred with her husband in Midland, Texas at a later date.
