Obituary for
Julia "Vickie" Blasingim (Townsend)
Julia “Vickie” Blasingim
Julia Blasingim, known to friends and family as "Vickie," passed away on December 6, 2017, at the age of 73 years.
Vickie was born in 1944 to Bette Jean Townsend (Duncum) and Daniel Bruce Townsend in Amarillo, Texas. She later moved to Pasadena, Texas where she attended Pasadena High School. She was an avid flautist and marched in the band while in high school. After high school, Vickie attended Lamar University for a short period of time as a music major. She also played briefly with the Beaumont Symphony and the Houston Youth Symphony. After settling down in Houston, she became an accountant at the Port of Houston until she retired in 1995. After retirement, she moved to The Commons, a neighborhood in Huffman, Texas.
Anyone who knew Vickie would tell you that music was an integral part of her life. She was a season ticket holder to the Houston Grand Opera and an avid concert-goer who was known to play loud music anytime she could. Her musical interests included soul, classical, Motown, and pop.
Vickie was as a thoughtful person who didn’t forget birthdays. She loved all animals and had an especially soft spot for cats. She wrote poems, loved to put money in slot machines, and played Bunko with her girls when she could. She was a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation and enjoyed visiting the tribal areas.
Vickie is survived by the love of her life, John Blasingim, whom she married on November 15, 1974. She shared her life with her daughters Kim, Jonica, and Johnie (Kissy), and sons, Wayne, Jamie Dean (Deno), Jerry and Danny. She has one surviving sister, 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Vickie and John were active members of Crosby Church and found the congregation to be a second "family.” Crosby Church allowed both of them the opportunity to grow their faith in the Lord. We are thankful for the outpouring of love and support from the kind and caring friends from Crosby Church. We also want to show our gratitude to the remarkable staff at Silverado Memory Care for taking such wonderful care of our cherished loved one, for making her and all of us always feel at home and for helping us cherish our time with her during her last hours.
Visitation services will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 2 PM – 5 PM. Vickie’s funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10 AM. Both services will be held at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Avenue, Humble, Texas. Pastor Keenan Smith will be officiating. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Wayne Blasingim, Nick Arnold, Bobby Oliphant, Ronnie Medcalf, Mark Jackson, Josh Pruneda. Honorary Pall Bearer is Jamie Dean Blasingim.
