Obituary for Casey Lyn Leitner

Our Casey came into this world on September 17, 1977 in Galveston, Texas and said good-bye on November 18, 2017 at home in Pasadena, Texas. Casey attended Moore Elementary, Thompson Intermediate, Dobie High School and graduated Salutatorian from Southeast Academy in 1996. Casey was employed as Service Supervisor, Americas for Drew Marine Safety.

There are not enough words to describe Casey. He was that rare individual who never met a stranger, because once he met you, you were his friend. Casey’s friendship had no boundaries – he accepted you for who you are. Casey lived his life with a giving and unselfish heart. He was a generous and selfless soul who would give someone in need everything he had without being asked, and would teach you anything he knew how to do. If you called him, he answered the phone. He believed it was his job to take care of everyone.

Casey had many interests and hobbies. But for almost everything he did, he first had to take it apart to see how it worked, and then to put it back together better, faster, bigger, smaller - all to his own exacting design. Before the internet and google, if you asked him, “Do you know how to do that,” he would say “I went to the library and got a book. How hard can it be?” Later he would just say “I think I can fix that”, no matter what it was. That is how he approached everything he did – he would figure it out. His intelligence and creativity knew no boundaries. He had a love for cars that started before he could drive, and especially loved his Honda Civic. He loved to play pool, and even for a short time pursued becoming a professional player. That led to him designing and making his own pool cue sticks, which then led to creating a workshop for that which he was constantly adding to. He would spend days trying to perfect a flaw in a cue that only he could see. He enjoyed playing golf, but said that it was a lot like playing pool – just in a pasture. And, of course, he enjoyed gambling, going to Vegas, and the dog track. All of his friends and family have stories of our Casey that will bring tears of laughter.

Casey loved his job at Drew Marine Safety, and he is much respected and admired by those he worked with, not only within the U.S., but throughout the world. There are many at Drew Marine that he considered his family.

To his friends, and there are so very many, he was the true definition of a friend.

To his family, Casey was a rare and precious jewel. He was always there with unconditional love and support. He loved children, and he was the “fun” uncle who would spend hours building Legos, putting together a toy, or playing a game. He bought them whatever they wanted and whatever he thought they should have because he liked it.

Casey is survived by his mother Lynn Hunt, his father Ronald Hunt and wife Jackie, his brothers Ron Eliot Hunt and Michael Leitner and wife Amy, nieces Tinsley and Lara Leitner, and his most beloved grandmother Betty Hunt. Casey also leaves behind his aunt Cindy DeWitt, cousin Jason DeWitt and wife Jill and their children; uncle Keith DeWitt and wife Susan and their children; cousin Misty Hodges Hebert and husband Brian and their daughter; his uncle Jay Hunt and wife Kimberly; cousin Jason Hunt and wife Shari and their children; cousin Jarod Hunt and wife Rachel and their children; and the Edwin Twitty Family. He will also be missed by his new blended family, Sandra Tyburczyk and her children; Jennifer Lewis Scott and her children; and Albert and Heidi Lott and their children.

Casey is preceded in death by his father Michael H. Leitner, grandparents J. R. Hunt, Alma and Lew Leitner, and Nelda and Leon DeWitt, cousin Miranda Hunt Twitty, aunt Dawn DeWitt Hodges, uncle Clay DeWitt, and by his very best friend Matt Rost.

In lieu of flowers, the Family would suggest donation to Make A Wish Foundation or any organization / recipient of the donor’s choice.
