Nora Lou Dixon (Dixon)
Nora Lou Dixon died on Saturday, September 30, 2017 with her loved ones at her side.
Born October 19, 1924, Nora grew up in the Great Depression and was taught to work hard, provide for the family, and honor her country. She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1939.
Nora Lou had a twin sister, Norma Sue. The two sisters could not have been any more different. Norma Sue passed away in 2009.
In October 1945, Nora graduated Jefferson Davis School of Nursing as an RN. She enlisted in the Navy in March of 1947, and retired in August of 1968 at a rank of Lt. Commander, supervising over 300 nurses. She was 42 years old when she retired the first time, serving 21 years in the Navy.
Upon retiring and moving back to Houston, she began her second career with Methodist Hospital in September of 1970. During her tenure there, she assisted with surgeries with Dr. Michael Debakey. She retired for the second time in November of 1991 after working there 21 years.
Her traveling years were 1964 – 1984 during which she took over 35 trips to Canada and around the world.
She is survived by her loving family members, Delores Parker and her sons Kevin and Brad, Dan and Joan Scott, Cookie Engeling, Alan and Laura Boylston, Richard and Alicia Allred, Marshall and Tina Settegast, Scott and Angie Settegast, Lynn and Linda Larremore; and her faithful caregiver, Cheryl Phillips.
Nora was preceded in death by her father, William Robert Dixon, Jr.; mother, Margaret Dixon; twin sister, Norma Sue; Bryant Parker; Diane Settegast, Barbara Boylston, and W. J. Settegast, III.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Rosewood Atascocita Chapel, 17404 W. Lake Houston Pkwy., Humble, Texas 77346. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m., at Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, Texas.
