Obituary for Norman "Rick" Francis Karn, Jr.

Norman “Rick” Francis Karn, Jr., 84, of Humble, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Hermann Memorial Hospital. Born in Royal Oak, Michigan to Norman, Sr. and Dorothy Karn, he lived most of his life in Texas.
Rick was a hardworking man with a strong sense of resolve. His strong work ethic began at the age of 8 when he worked at his father’s gas station. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force where he met and married his lifelong love after six weeks. His dedication and patriotism
never left him as he journeyed on in his life. In the years to follow, he worked for his father’s car dealership. His tenacity was admirable, and after many years in the insurance industry, he was driven to become a business owner of restaurants and spent
25 years of his life working hard to ensure its success. Rick did not understand the word “retirement”; as a matter of fact, he worked primarily as a golf marshal until he was in his 80s.
Rick loved and adored his wife and best friend of 66 years, Marilyn Karn. He was a devoted and proud father of his five children: Norman Karn, III, Linda Sawyers, Annette Paduano (Charlie), Brett Karn (Karen), and Kara Karn (Greg Cornett). He is preceded in death by his mother , Dorothy Taylor;
father, Norman F. Karn, Sr; sister, Connie Taylor; and son, Norman F. Karn III. In addition, he is survived by his fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and many lifelong friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Ave., Humble, Texas 77396. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Rosewood Humble Chapel. Rick will be laid to rest at the Rosewood Memorial Park.
