Obituary for Lillia Irene Meyer (Herzer)

Liillia “Irene” Herzer Null Meyer

She described herself as a ‘country girl from McDade.’ Irene was born on June 1, 1927 in Coupland, Texas, the first child of Edgar Christian Herzer and Emma Kastner Herzer. In her early years, she enjoyed the simple country life, and as a teenager worked at Camp Swift, Texas. A job change introduced Irene to her future husband George O. Null, Jr. whom she wed on January 27, 1948, followed by a move to her home of 65 years in Galena Park, Texas. Widowed in 1969 she exhibited her resilience as she earned her GED and her first driver’s license in order to support herself and maintain her home. In 1978 she wed Richard J. “Dick” Meyer. Irene and Dick enjoyed many craft hobbies, maintaining a beautiful home and yard, and traveling and seeing the sites as they visited Branson, Missouri; Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and his native state of North Dakota, as well as many other locations and local venues to enjoy country western music and dancing. In 2015, Irene moved to Colonial Oaks, an assisted living center in Pasadena where she lived her final years. Irene was preceded in death by her first husband George O. Null, Jr., husband Dick Meyer, parents Edgar and Emma Herzer, daughter-in-law Molieve Null, sister and brother-in-law Doris Ann and Larry Barre, and stepson Bobby Meyer. She is survived by her children, Larry Null and fiancé Zhanna Kogan, Nancy and Jerry Coger; grandchildren and spouses, Brandon and Nicole Null, Cameron and Alissa Null, Joshua Coger and Paul Ramsay, Noah Coger and Kelsi Kiper, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Dorothy Herzer, and her great grandchildren Mason Null, Nathan Null, Abigail Null, and Luke Null. She is also survived by her stepchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Sandy Meyer, Debbie and Carl Slagley, David and Michelle Meyer, Billy and Geri Meyer, and Terri Meyer and their children and grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
