Obituary for
Kenneth B. Lohr
Kenneth Lohr, 71, of Humble, Texas, passed peacefully at home with his family on June 28, 2017, following a long battle with cancer.
His memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Rosewood Funeral Home in Atascocita, Texas, with a reception to follow at his home.
Ken was born in Peoria, Illinois, the only child of Lowell B. and Doris Lohr, on May 5, 1946. He grew up in California, and graduated from St Paul High School of Sante Fe Springs.
Ken was married to Kristi Lohr (Black) on October 26, 1968. They were married for 49 years.
Ken was in the structural fastener business for 45 years, and was proud to have helped build everything from stadiums to skyscrapers to bridges, all over the world. His specialty was tension control bolts, and he held two patents for his own innovation to the industry, the Lohr SmartHex TC bolt. His business took him from California to Minnesota and then Texas in 1979.
He loved cars and motorcycles, basketball, water sports, spending time with friends and family in both Texas and Chile, and playing with his “son,” Gringo. Ken will be remembered for his humor, spontaneity, elaborate pranks, endless projects, and his love of wheeling and dealing. For years, he had a placard on his desk that read: YCSBSOYA. It stood for “You can’t sell bolts sitting on your ass”—that pretty much summed up his philosophy of life. He was a loving father and husband, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be deeply missed.
Ken is survived by his wife, Kristi; daughter, Nikol; granddaughter, Twyla Pearl; and Twyla’s father, Ron. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Doris Lohr.
