Obituary for Jimmy Loyd Boswell

Jimmy Loyd Boswell
Jimmy Loyd Boswell was born June 14, 1933 in Fort. Worth, Texas. He passed away on April 29, 2017 in Kingwood, Texas.

He is survived by his Daughter, Malinn Saxe and Son-in-law, Sandy Saxe; Daughter-in-Law Terri Boswell Neece; Grandchildren, David Saxe and spouse Ally, Kevin Saxe and spouse Audrey, Connor Saxe and spouse Alex, Michael Boswell, Kirk Boswell and spouse Nikki, Jennifer Watson and spouse Jason, Derik Stotland and spouse Jessica; Great grandchildren: Micah, Laurel, Norah, Wyatt, Levi, Ryan, Harper, and Noah Saxe, Astin and Grace Boswell, James, Jalen and Jacob Watson, Alexis and Aubrey Stotland.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, who passed away when he was 6 years old. His father passed away when he was 16 years old. His wife of 33 years and mother to his 3 children. However, they were divorced at the time of her death; Sheila Carey Boswell at the age of 59; his son, Carey Boswell, at the age of 53, and daughter, Lori Stotland, at the age of 55. Foster parents Marge and Ted Willis.

He was born as a result of a mid-life romance of Velma Leak, and James Willie Boswell, in a home delivery weighing 11 3/4 pounds. Due to extreme poverty in his young life, he made it a determination to get a college education. He worked with his father on an ice delivery truck, and was throwing papers at a very young age. From the age of 12 - he lived on his own, until a wonderful foster family took him in while he was in high school. He excelled in school, and received many awards at Pascal High School in Ft. Worth. He met his wife, Sheila Carey, in high school, and they married at the age of 18 in 1952. Due to his determination to get a college degree, he worked 3 or 4 jobs during his college years, and he and his wife also had their first 2 children during their years at University of Texas in Austin. He graduated with a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1956.

During his years in the oil industry, he worked for Magnolia Petroleum Co., Mobil Oil, Southern Minerals, Robert Mosbacher, Blocker Energy, and became President of Global Natural Resources in Houston. During these years the family moved often, even living in Iran and Tripoli, Libya for 3 years.

A major change of life style occurred in January, 1985, when he joined Alcoholics Anonymous, where he remained an active member for many years. His greatest feelings of accomplishment came from his commitment to helping others in sobriety. He had celebrated 32 years of sobriety at the time of his death. The majority of his active years in AA were spent in Austin, Texas. He spent the last 10 years of his life in Kingwood, Texas to be near his daughter and her family.

Surrender was the most important word in his life. From riches to enough, from wants to needs, from brutality to inspiration, from not enough to more than enough. His words “God, as I understand Him, is more than my Savior, more than my protector, more than my caretaker, but my Life” He recommitted his life to His Lord and Savior only 3 days before his death in the presence of his daughter and Pastor Al.

He will be missed greatly by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, we request contributions be made to Christ The King Lutheran Church, Kingwood, Texas in his memory, or to the charity of your choice.

His daughter would especially like to thank all of his caretakers at Brookdale Assisted Living, who gave to him so lovingly. To his incredible nurse practitioner Sandra Martin, who cared for him for many years with such love. To his oncologist Dr. Kathryn Lewis, who he loved so very much. And to A-Med Hospice, especially his Hospice Nurse Elaina, who was so helpful in so many ways. So grateful for so many people that loved on him so unselfishly! And to Pastor Al Doering who has ministered to him and to me with such love, and to Christ The King Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers are all his Adult Grandsons, David Saxe, Kevin Saxe, Connor Saxe, Kirk Boswell, Michael Boswell and Derik Stotland,
