Obituary for Wallace C. Cox

Wallace C.  Cox
Wallace Charles Cox, 88 years old, formerly of Leland, Iowa, Pharr, Texas and Atascocita, Texas died February 5, 2017 at Memorial Herman Hospital, Humble, Texas. Wallace Cox was born January 24, 1929 on a farm in Iowa to Charles Henry and Mabel Olson Cox. He was baptized April 21, 1929 at North Prairie Church. He was confirmed 1943 at Center Synod Church. He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1947. Wallace was in the army from January, 28, 1949 - February 2, 1950, serving in the Korean War and was in the active reserves until 1953. He married Elaine Schott on September 24, 1950 at Salem Lutheran Church. Albert Lea, Minnesota. He started farming in 1952 in Leland, Iowa. Then he became a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service out of Leland, Iowa from 1966-1986 and out of Kensett, Iowa from 1986-1989, when he retired. He held township offices of chairman and vice chairman for Winnebago County and district Rural Carriers Association, A.S.C.S., and was active in N.F.O. He held several offices in the Scarville Lutheran Church and Worship Committee in Pharr, Texas. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scarville, Iowa. He was a life member of the Disabled Veterans and American Legion.
He loved square dancing, golfing, playing cards and family. He volunteered at the Rio Grande Hospital in McAllen, Texas for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, 3 brothers: Virgil, Clifford, and Kenneth; 1 sister: Vivian; 1 son-in-law: Doug Sampson; 2 sisters-in-law Jean and Mavis, 2 brothers-in-law: Harold and Cecil. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, one son, Jack(Barb) Cox, one daughter, Pauline Sampson, 5 grandchildren: Candy (Jim) Olsen, Cory (Tracy) Cox, Jason Sampson, Melissa (Quentin) Leigh, Kyle (Elizabeth) Sampson; 9 great grandchildren: Andrew Olsen, Jordan Leigh, Cassidy Cox, Michael Olsen, Faith Cox, Eva Leigh, Sophia Leigh, Cody Cox, and Aiden Sampson; 2 sisters, Dorothy Olson and Georgia (Wayne) Andersen; many nephews, nieces, and cousins.


Services handled by Middlestad Funeral Home, Lake Mills, Iowa.
Visitation, Saturday February 11, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Middlestad Funeral Home, Lake Mills, Iowa
Funeral at Immanuel Lutheran, Scarville, Iowa Sunday February 12, 2017 at 1:00 PM with internment following the service at Center Synod, rural Leland, Iowa.
