Life Story for Marjorie Geverne Means (Johnson)
Marjorie "Marge" Geverne Johnson Means, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 16, 2017. From her birth on October 1, 1938 in Ft. Jessup, Louisiana to her death on Monday, she nourished her family and the people around her with love, faith and joy. Marge's life was a gift to those around her. She began life as the 2nd child of Leroy Johnson and Geverne Clark Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Jack Johnson and is survived by her 2 younger sisters, Linda and Beverly.
From an early age, Marge worked to help those around her. She graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana at a young age and then decided to leave her home and serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Western States Mission. Marge grew to love the people she served and made friends that she would remain close to for the rest of her life, including her dear friend Kathy Gibbs of Denver, Colorado. Her passion for service and her beautiful nature is what attracted her husband, Thomas Lee Means to her while they both served as missionaries. When both she and Thomas finished their time on their missions, they married for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple and remained married for 51 years. Marge and Tom then went onto have 6 children: Julie Means Parker, Suzanne Means Callens, Matthew Conrad Means, Kelli Means Gilstrap, Mark Leroy Means and Bradley Adam Means. Together with her beloved husband and children, Marge lived in California, New Zealand, Utah, Ohio, Louisiana, North Carolina and lastly, Texas.
Marge worked to serve those around her in each place she lived on this earth and was a blessing to many. Always full of life and energy, Marge completed a Marathon and Master’s at Louisiana Tech at age 65, a testament to her can-do attitude and positivity. She was known for her warm heart and her delicious warm bread that she shared with others. Left to honor her life are children Julie, Susie, Kelli, Mark and Brad and her grandchildren, Erica, Brett, Logan, Katelyn, Tyler, William, Emily, Morgan, Gauge, Adoree, Ryan, David, Jeffrey, Sarah, Grace, Dakota and Ava. Her parents, brother Jack, and her dear son Matthew preceded Marge in death. Marge will always be remembered by those who knew her as a bright, shining example of service to the wards and branches of which she was a member. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4021 Deerbrook Dr. Kingwood, TX 77339. Burial will follow at Central Cemetery in Robeline, LA. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at home of Marge and Thomas Means on Friday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marge's name to the American Diabetes Association.
