Obituary for
June Alcocer
Wanda June (Haragan) Alcocer passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in League City, Texas at age 84. Born Wanda June Haragan on June 4, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas, she moved to Houston, Texas at a young age. There she attended Deady Junior High, later graduating from Milby High School. She married James L. Alcocer in 1953 and moved to Pasadena, Texas shortly after. She was a Pasadena resident for over 60 years. She owned and operated ‘Collectors Corner’, an antique store in Pasadena for 13 years.
June was preceded in death by parents, Douglas A. and Mabel E. Haragan; brother, Douglas E. (Gene) Haragan; and after 56 years of marriage, husband, James L. Alcocer.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy L. Kimball and husband Vic, and Janice K. Straughan; by her son, Jamie D. Alcocer; by grandsons, Jeffrey Kimball, Gregory Kimball and wife Alana, Dustin Straughan, and Austin Alcocer; by granddaughters, Staci Perkins and husband Jeff, Julie Franklin and husband Rob; by great-grandchildren, Lucas, Maddie, Noah, Jude and Bennett.
June was an avid collector of antiques and she lived her dream when she opened her antique store in 1984. She loved to go on the ‘hunt’ for anything antique or collectible. She loved going to estate sales, garage sales, First Monday Trade Days and to Round Top for the antique fair every year.
She also loved her family. This showed in everything that she did throughout her life. Brownies, Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls, PTA, recitals, choir, rodeos, football, baseball, fishing and later for the grandkids, tennis, basketball, football (again), hockey and every program they were involved in, she was there. She made costumes, uniforms and formals. She helped with projects, writing and schoolwork. She was always there whenever needed. That’s what she loved and did best!
She was also very proud of her Irish background and always let you know it. Her love for Irish music and folklore was one she shared with all.
June will be missed very much by family and friends, but more importantly be remembered fondly by all.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers at The Cottages at Clear Lake and A-Med Hospice.
