Rhonda Jean Jenkins Fontenot
October 16, 1974 - October 14, 2016
Rhonda Jean Jenkins Fontenot was born in Pasadena, Texas, on October 16, 1974. She attended elementary school at Jensen Elementary, junior high at Parkview Intermediate, and graduated high school from Sam Rayburn High School in 1993. Throughout her school years, and even before that, she was involved in sports and loved cheerleading. Rhonda was a varsity cheerleader at Sam Rayburn for 3 years where her squads won numerous awards. She also lettered in volleyball and softball.
After graduation, Rhonda went off to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Tx, on scholarships from NASA Johnson Space Center and South Main Baptist Church. Her goal was a degree in psychology, but she ended up meeting her future husband there the first year and eventually ended up married and living in Mississippi. Much to her family and friends delight, Rhonda moved back to Pasadena in 2011 with her son and daughter.
Rhonda loved the Lord and was baptized at a young age. She recently recommitted her life to the Lord and was planning on being baptized again as an outward show of her commitment. A note found in her Bible has the notation “Never too late to do the right thing.”
Rhonda is survived by her husband, JoeBob Fontenot, her son Jett Turner Jenkins, her daughter Madison Jean Jenkins, step-daughters Peyton and Jemma Fontenot, her mother Jean Alexander, her father Bill Alexander, and one brother, Jason Alexander. She has numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and has shared many happy times with them. Rhonda was also surrounded by an extensive, close group of friends throughout her life.
While living in Mississippi, Rhonda obtained a degree in cosmetology and worked for a time as a hair stylist. Her real passion was her children, and she mostly worked as a full-time mother to her own kids and to many other children lucky enough to be friends with them.
For the last few years, her passion has been watching her son Jett play baseball for the Pasadena Predators and Memorial High School Mavericks. She and her family spent many evenings and weekends at the ball fields cheering on the teams. When baseball slowed down, she could be found at the soccer field watching Peyton play.
On Friday evening, October 14, 2016, Rhonda was unexpectedly taken home to her heavenly father. She is now cheering her children on from a much higher stadium, but her laughter and encouragement will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
