Allen Henry Williford
Allen H. Williford, age 79, passed away peacefully Monday, August 15, 2016 at Bay Area Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. Allen's cause of death was Shy Drager Syndrome, also known as Multiple System Atrophy. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
He is the first of three children born to R.A. Williford, Jr and his wife Ila (Seale) Williford. Born in Beaumont, Texas on March 7, 1937, Allen grew up in Kountze, Texas. He then attended Texas A&M University where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He later received an MBA from Xavier University in 1989. He worked for Armco Steel in Houston and Middletown, Ohio for 33 years. After retirement, he worked for Simpson Paper in Pasadena and also taught at LeTourneau University.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Margaret (Salter) Williford, three children Bruce Allen Williford and wife Debra of Keechi, Karen Williford Shade and husband Albert of Riverside, California and Brent Henry Williford and wife Shannon of College Station. He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin and Brooke Williford, Matthew (Nicole), Andrew and Jacob Shade and Laura, Anna, Jake and Tyler Williford. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Williford and wife Harolyn of Charlotte, North Carolina, his nieces Danya (Williford) Goerig and husband Edward of Houston and Kaylyn Williford of Charlotte, North Carolina and two cousins who were like a brother and sister to him, Truett Carlton Williford and wife Glenda of Port Neches and Evelyn (Williford) James and husband Frank of Orange and great niece Adelyn Goerig. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Barbara Ann. Serving as pallbearers are four of his grandsons: Justin Williford, Matthew Shade, Andrew Shade and Jacob Shade and his two sons: Bruce Williford and Brent Williford.
Allen will be remembered by his family and friends as a father, an engineer, an Aggie and as a man who was deeply devoted to his family and his Lord. He was active at South Main Baptist Church of Pasadena where he served in multiple ministries. He volunteered in the community through Tax Aid and at area schools through the HOST program. One of Allen's favorite pastimes was watching Aggie football and he was involved in the Bay Area A&M Club.
Allen will be greatly missed by his family and his multitude of friends from church and the community. Allen's legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren to whom he imparted the love of family, the love of God and a servant’s heart for one’s own community.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Rosewood Funeral Home, 3939 Pasadena Blvd., Pasadena, Texas 77503. Memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2016, at South Main Baptist Church, 4300 East Sam Houston Pkwy. S., Pasadena, Texas 77505.
