Ronald G. Odom of Kingwood, TX lost his courageous battle with cancer on May 5, 2016.

He graduated from Caney High School in 1963. In 1965, he earned an Associates degree from Coffeyville College. He received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University in 1968. At Kansas State, he was a member of the Iota chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda. He is now a member of the Omega chapter.
Ron was married to Linda Coble on August 20, 1967 in Coffeyville, KS. Married for over forty-eight years, Linda survives Ron at their home in Kingwood. He is also survived by children Amy Leigh Odom-Voltz (husband Keith), Kyle Howard Odom (wife Sabrina), Meghan Janette Odom-Goodman (husband Brandon), grandchildren Zachary, Chance, Tyler and Cash Odom, Caden and Isabel Campbell, Alexander, Trevor and Claire Goodman. Ron worked in the oil industry all of his career having started at the Shell Wood River Refinery in Roxana, IL. He changed to Skelly Oil Company in El Dorado, KS and after a series of mergers within the industry he ironically retired from Shell at the end of 2003. He said, “We don’t take vacations, we just move.”
Ron enjoyed traveling and playing golf at different locations. He was an avid golfer since his preteen years and enjoyed golfing with his friends at Kingwood Country Club until the cancer took over. A member of OFWW, the BFO traveling group, and his regular Shell group, he was busy and happy.
A member of the Kansas State Houston Alumni Club, he was a huge Wildcat fan. He also had become fond of reading and was a regular visitor to the library.
A loving family man, he loved being with his children and grandchildren. Aged from twenty-three years to one month, being with the grandchildren was his favorite pastime. He was also a good neighbor and friend.
The family wants to give special thanks to his hospice nurse, Stacie, that was in our lives the past four months. Also to his golf buddies that were supportive during his cancer battle. You may contribute to your favorite charity in Ron’s memory if you so desire.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Rosewood Funeral Home, 2602 South Houston Ave., Humble, Texas 77396. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2016, At Rosewood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
