Obituary for
Stephen Baxter Bush
Our beloved Steve passed peacefully Friday, March 27, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dathryn Bush, daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Rick Cole, daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Tony Dias, grandson Sivan Herrington, brothers Ronnie Bush of Porter and Marty Bush and wife Nelda of Kountze, sister-in-law Joyce Bohannion of Weatherford, brother-in-law Lewis Smith of Mission Viejo, CA as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Born in Pasadena, TX to Gladys and Jim Bush, Steve graduated from New Caney High School in 1968 where he was known by many as Sugar Bear. After school he joined the US Army where he served as a mechanic in the Armory Division stationed out of Frankfort Germany until 1971.
Starting out as a lineman, Steve retired in 2005 after 32 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with the last 18+ years managing all aspects of the Right-of-Way Department. Through his decades of service he met not only colleagues, but many whom he considered close friends and extended family. Being a true professional, he was dedicated to his work, fairness and the sharing of knowledge in what he did to help others. Retirement was not for Steve though and he went on to continue his work in Right-of Way with KDM Property Acquisitions for the last 10 years. Steve also was a member of the National Right-of-Way Association for the last 30 years.
Steve was civic minded and compassionate about serving his community. In 2000, Steve was elected to the New Caney Municipal Utility District Board of Directors where he has proudly served as President since 2008. He also held numerous positions with the Northcrest Ranch Subdivision POA Board of Directors for the last 8 years. Again, he always remained passionate and developed many friendships with the people he worked with in the positions he held, but also with the people in the communities he served so selflessly.
Away from work, Steve loved to spend time with his family. He loved to fish and most recently he cherished his time hunting with his grandson, Sivan. He loved to garden and to be outdoors. Above all, Steve was a compassionate, dedicated, loving family man…he was a jokester, a comedian, a teller of great stories…he was a fair, ethical man of great morals...a proud man, a humble man…a MAN who touched the lives of so many and who will be forever missed by all.
