Obituary for
Bertha Mills (Faul)
Rita Bertha Mills, age 83, joined her heavenly father on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. She was residing at Baywood Crossing Healthcare in Pasadena, Tx when her body succumbed to the effects of congestive heart failure.
She was born to Joseph and Helena Faul, in Port Barre, Louisiana on January 19, 1932.
Her loving and caring spirit kept the front door to her home always open for those that came to visit. She hosted countless gatherings for her family with a kitchen of welcoming aromas of cajun inspired dishes and her famous homemade bread/rolls.
Her parents were farmers and taught her the joy of "playing in the dirt", which in later years inspired her to flower garden in her yard, with her favorite being roses. Her roses slowed many a passersby to admire their beauty and even enticed a few rose thieves.
She was a master at the the art of crochet, with her specialty being doilies. She enjoyed the art of painting ceramics and greenware. She left her family the memory of the sound of a Singer sewing machine sewing anything from a beautiful dress to a clown costume and patching holes in jeans.
She took great pride in maintaining a clean home and keeping the floors shined with a coat of wax. That cleanliness along with her love for children drew many a parent to entrust her with their children in her home child care business of 20 years. She not only fed and gave these children a safe place for parents to go to work, she would do things like make sure a little girl had her hair fixed up pretty for school when her single dad just couldn't get it all done.
She limited herself to driving only on local streets, so when opportunity knocked for travel she was quick to say "sure!". Her dream destination was Hawaii and an opportunity allowed that dream to come true. It was her first and only time to fly and she enjoyed every moment of the experience.
She was always happy to attend events for family members such as dance recitals, graduations, pageants, weddings, birthday parties and little league baseball games to validate to the participant/honoree that they were important and special.
She had a love for animals that gave numerous cats and dogs a happy home. She cared for her mentally challenged son for 51 years.
She miraculously survived pancreatic cancer 22 years ago and managed induced diabetes from the surgery to remove the cancer for those 22 years.
She is preceded in death by her 2nd husband of 39 years, Patrick Mills and her 1st husband of 24 years, Berchman Quebedeaux, her son Robert (Bobby) Mills, daughter Frances Mills, daughter-in-law Jeanie Quebedeaux and grandson Troy Quebedeaux.
She is survived by sons Larry Quebedeaux and wife Shirley, Ronnie Quebedeaux, Carl Quebedeaux, daughters Elaine Sandefer and husband Ron, Debbie Espinoza and husband Victor, daughter-in-law Nelda Mills, grandchildren, Aimee Daigle, Shawn Quebedeaux, Sara Cavitt, Scotty Quebedeaux, Marcia Lavergne, Jason Sandefer, Joshua Sandefer, Joseph Espinoza, Caleb Espinoza, Nathan Espinoza, Johnny Mills, Stephen Mills, Mark Mills, Amy King, Crystal Norwood and 25 great grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed.
