Obituary for
Dorothy "Dottie" Jean Jackson Ivy
Dorothy Jean Jackson Ivy (Dottie) passed away on October 18, 2014 after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 2, 1935 to the late Frank Dimmitt Jackson and Jessyca Brutonne Riser. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School, Texas in 1953 and Louisiana Tech University in 1957, with a degree in Elementary Education. There Dottie met her future husband, Rowland David Ivy. They were married on July 5, 1957 in Shreveport, Louisiana. They loved, laughed, and danced through 57 years of marriage.
She leaves behind a lifetime of love that will influence and impact generations of her family to come. She was well known among her family and friends for her love of children. Dottie spent many years teaching preschool at Westbury and Kingwood United Methodist Church Schools for Little Children. “Nana”, as she was affectionately known to her grandkids and great-grandkids, very much enjoyed playing, laughing and being involved in their lives as they grew up. She and Rowland attended countless youth sporting events, performances, and later graduations, all the while investing in their lives. Dottie even kept up with the latest trends and technologies to be able to relate to her grandchildren, including having them all as “Facebook Friends”. One of her most pleasurable events was the annual Family Beach Vacation in Galveston.
She is survived by her husband Rowland, son David Ivy and wife Cathy, daughter Laurie Brown and husband Mike, son Robert Ivy and wife Michelle; grandchildren Brittany Brown, Russell Ivy and wife Natasha, April Ivy, Valerie Brown, Steven Brown, Jill Ivy, Courtlyn Ivy, and Connor Ivy; great grandchildren Melody Ivy and Aaron Ivy; sister Jacque Howard and husband Joe, sister-in-law Camille Heller; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
