Obituary for Lee Ann Elgin (Foster)

Lee Ann Elgin, 45, died at home from inflammatory breast cancer, on July 15, 2014, in Kingwood, TX. She was surrounded by her immediate family and close loved ones.
Lee Ann was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 19, 1969 to Claudia Owens and LeRoy Foster. She graduated from Valley Central High School in 1987. She was then accepted into the prestigious music school Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, where she obtained her Bachelor of Music Education, Voice concentration, in 1992. During her time there, she had the opportunity to sing with the Westminster Symphonic Choir with the great orchestras of the American Northeast, including the New York Philharmonic under both maestros Bernstein and Masur, and the Philadelphia Orchestra under Riccardo Muti. She met her husband, Sean Elgin, on the bus to Philadelphia for a performance of Verdi’s Nabucco.
After marriage, Lee Ann moved with her husband to the Houston, Texas area. She taught middle school choir at various schools there, as well as helped with children’s music programs at her church. She loved her children and the children she taught, showing good grace, humor, and kindness, even through the worst parts of her cancer treatments. She ended her career in March 2014 at Timberwood Middle School in Humble, TX, after ten years of service there.
Because of her outstanding service as an educator, she was given a lifetime membership to the PTA. She was beloved by her students, family, and friends for her sharp sense of humor, dedication to her vocation as a teacher, and her overwhelming capacity to love anyone.
Lee Ann was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy Foster. She is survived by her adoring husband, Sean Elgin; her mother, Claudia DeFrancesco; her sisters, Ruthanne Kingston and Sara Conklin; her children, Lindsay, Matthew, and Nathaniel Elgin; and a host of family, friends and students that loved her dearly.
A visitation will be held on July 18, 2014 at 5:00pm, at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, TX. A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church the following day on July 19, 2014 at 11:00am, with a brief reception following.
Lee Ann asked that donations be made to the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network , so that others may not have to go through what she did.
